Definition

ARPU is the average revenue earned from one user (or customer) over a defined period, typically monthly. It is calculated by dividing total revenue by the number of users in that period. ARPU is most useful for subscription businesses where it tracks pricing-power and expansion-revenue trends.

  1. ARPU = total revenue ÷ users for the period.

  2. For SaaS, monthly ARPU is the canonical version (also called ARPA).

  3. Track ARPPU (paying users only) separately from ARPU (all users) for freemium models.
